Registration Steps, 2016-17

Registration for returning athletes.

You will already have your Teamsnap account and will have been moved to the appropriate team as necessary. You’ll need to complete all the paper work before you’ll be allowed back in a boat. You will receive email regarding paying your registration fee.

Trying out the sport:

Feel free to come to practice and checkout out the sport. You’ll need to complete the paperwork before you  can get in a boat, and you’ll need to get your crew Teamsnap.com account so we can communicate with you about practices, but we won’t be collecting the registration fee until later in the fall.

Registration for those new to the team: SUMMARY

  1. Registration with Teamsnap.com – rower/coxswain login.
  2. Teamsnap.com – parent contact.
  3. BHS Athletic Packet (Includes doctor signed physical form.  Submit completed packet in person to BHS Athletic Director’s Office. Bring verification to Crew Coach)
  4. Swim Test form (Get signed by a lifeguard. Submit to coach)
  5. Payments & Scholarships.
  6. US Rowing waiver (Do online, before first race, late in the Fall)

Get forms from the Coaches or download them via the Forms page. Ask the coaches or email the registrar if you have questions.

1. Registration for Teamsnap for rowers & coxswains.

Teamsnap.com is an online team management system that many families are familiar with from other sports such as soccer, although the Crew team uses it somewhat differently than some other teams.

Use the following links to register and get your team snap account: (DO NOT reuse an existing parent Teamsap account. Create one in the Student Athlete’s name).

When you have registered, you’ll be added to the team roster, and you will receive all team communications.

TeamSnap is used to manage team rosters so it is important that the rower/coxswain register with their own email address and password. Returning rowers will already be in the system from previous years and will be move to the appropriate team by the coaches if necessary.

2. Teamsnap for parents:

TeamSnap is used for all communications and the team calendar so it is  very important that a parent has their email address as part of their rower/coxswain’s teamsnap profile. This can be done in one of two ways. The way the team uses Teamsnap, it doesn’t much matter which way you choose, as long at both parents and rower/coxswains are getting the email notifications and have access to the team calendar.  To add the parent email, either

  • Add a parent email address to the student’s account and make sure the parent knows the user/password for the account

or

  • From within the student account, the parent can be ‘invited’ to ‘share access’. Done this way,  the parent can have their own log-in to the same account.

3. Berkeley High School Athletic Packet

Packets are available at the Berkeley High Front Desk, the Athletic Director’s Office, or via download from the Forms page.   Berkeley High School requires all student-athletes, including rowers and coxswains, to submit a completed Athletic Packet prior to participating in team practices.  Please note that the Packet requires a physical examination and signature by a physician and a parent/guardian.

SUBMIT: Once completed, the whole Athletic Packet needs to be submitted by the student to the Athletic Director’s Office.   Once their Packets are approved, student-athletes will receive a yellow card which indicates they are authorized to participate.  This card should then be turned in to the relevant Crew Coach (Men’s/Women’s, Varsity/Novice).

4. Swim Test

The Berkeley High Crew Swim Test form is available from the Forms page.  Swimming tests can be obtained at the MLK School Pool or a pool of your choice. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to arrange for the athlete’s swimming tests by calling the facility and scheduling a day and time. If you’ve submitted this as part of a BHS crew camp during the summer, you don’t need to submit it again.

SUBMIT: Once the swim test has been signed by a lifeguard, turn it in to your Berkeley High Crew Coach.

5. Payments & Scholarships

Payments are due at the start of the year, or whenever you join the team.

Scholarships

We are committed to making rowing accessible to all Berkeley High students, and we have a scholarship program in place to help families with the team contribution. Please 
contact the registrar
 in confidence for a scholarship application.

Payments can be made by
  • Check: sending a check, made out to “Berkeley Crew”, to Berkeley High School Crew, P.O. Box 1012, Berkeley, CA 94701,
  • Online using PayPal on this website.
  • In person at an event, using Square to swipe your credit card.
  • Calling the registrar with your credit card information.
  • Via PayPal link in your email.

6. US Rowing.com – waiver

Each rowers/coxswain needs to create an account at USRowing.com and thus will be given a US Rowing #. This number will stay with you the whole time they are with Berkeley High Crew, so make a note of it!

Fee: none.
Duration: Good for calendar year.

In order to participate in  any race you will go to the USRowing Join/Renew page and create a Basic Membership (Formerly Waiver-Only Profile). Look for the “JOIN Become a basic Member” link. Make sure you select “Berkeley High School Crew” as your affiliation. You’ll sign the waiver, create a login/password and get your USRowing #.

If you already have a USRowing #, on the same JOIN/RENEW page you can look for the “RENEW!  Current Basic Members: Update Your Profile or Sign Your Waiver”

The waiver is valid for a calendar year so if you sign one to participate in a race in the Fall, you will have to sign again in the Spring. Coaches will remind the team to do this at the appropriate time.
