Welcome to the Berkeley High Crew team and the sport of competitive rowing. Rowing is a sport that can be enjoyed over a lifetime. When done correctly, it can be one of the most challenging things you will ever do, but is also one of the most rewarding. Crew is the ultimate team sport. The success of a boat depends on all rowers giving their greatest possible effort in perfect unison. Rowing exercises more muscle groups and is more aerobic than any other sport. It appears graceful, elegant and sometimes effortless, but rowers aren’t called the world’s most physically fit athletes for no reason! Crew is one of the fastest-growing high school sports, and it is the oldest intercollegiate sport, originating at Cambridge University in 1827. Many top colleges and universities now recruit and award scholarships for high school rowers and coxswains, especially women.
Crew is hard work, but it is also fun! It is a committed co-ed Berkeley High sport that creates school pride, perosnal confidence, teamwork, and lasting friendships. The team is supported by a dedicated group of parent volunteers, coaches and board members. You have become part of a very special racing team whose spirit and camaraderie is infectious.
