Winter & Spring 2018 Races

After a well deserved break for the holidays, the boys and girls of Berkeley High Crew are back to training. The short winter days mean more hours on the ergs and in the weight room, but full afternoon practices on the Estuary will resume soon enough.

The coaching staff has been busy arranging this year’s racing calendar. Here is the latest — very much subject to change as the details are ironed out!

Date Event Location
Sunday, 2/4 Peninsula Indoor Rowing Championships Tierra Linda Middle School, San Carlos
Saturday, 2/17 Novice Regatta Lake Merced, San Francisco
Saturday 2/24 & Sunday 2/25 Faultline Face Off San Pablo Reservoir
Saturday 4/7 510 Sprints JLAC
Sunday 4/22 Natoma Regatta Sacramento State Aquatic Center
Friday 5/4 – Sunday 5/6 Southwest Youth Championships Sacramento State Aquatic Center

GO JACKETS!

Thanks for Joining us at the Holiday Sprints!

Berkeley High Crew closed out 2017 with a fabulous morning on the Oakland Estuary. A few brave alumni tested the varsity and novice teams in eights & fours, and the brief rivalry was followed by a tasty potluck.

Here are a few photos from the event (credit to Steve Grand):

The highlight of the morning was the naming ceremony for the new four/quad — honoring Coach Gulliver and his father, who have been deeply involved with the team over the past decade-and-a-half.

Welcome the “Roy Scott”!

Happy Holidays and all the best for 2018!

2017 Holiday Sprints – Sunday December 17th @ JLAC

Holiday Sprints 2017

Berkeley High rowers, coxswains, coaches, and parents – past and present – will gather on Sunday, December 17 for our annual Holiday Sprints and Alumni Celebration.

The traditional 1,000-meter (or thereabouts!) races will start shortly after 9:00 AM and will be followed by brunch and an awards ceremony. We will also have the pleasure of naming a new boat, purchased this year through generous support from the BHS Crew community!

Alumni: Please let us know you’re coming on Facebook.

Fall Crew Meeting

image-5Berkeley High students interested in joining the school’s rowing team should attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 6 at 4:00 PM at the Jacket Stadium bleachers.

At this meeting the coaching staff will provide students with the basic info they need to get started. If you are planning on rowing – or trying out for any varsity sport – you will need to complete the BHS Athletic Packet prior to the start of practice. Details on the Packet are available on the Athletics web site here.
